11 off to Special Olympics

Christchurch was well-represented in the New Zealand team of 11 competitors and officials that left on Sunday for the special Olympics world winter games in Nagano, Japan.

Hamish Chand will compete in the skiing and Nicholas Apperley, in the ice figure skating.

Canterbury officials Maryna Tsevina (figure skating coach), Eric Apperley (figure skating), and Dave Pryor (head of delegation) are also in the team.

Eighty countries have teams at the games, held every four years. They start on February 26.
