Christchurch finally enjoyed a touch of summer sunshine this week after unseasonably cool, wet and cloudy weather recently.

Beaches and swimming pools were packed on Wednesday as the day reached temperatures around 25 degrees celsius.

The new year has brought one of the warmest weeks of the summer so far.

Unfortunately, the weather predictions for the weeked were for more rain and cool southerlies for the region.
