Couple's tour "shattered" by crash

A Pukekohe couple touring the South Island suffered serious injuries when a car allegedly pulled out in front of the motorbike they were riding in Hurunui.

The collision occcured near Rotherham Rd South and Flintoft Mouse Point Rd, Amuri Plain, just after 1pm, yesterday.

They couple were flown to Christchurch Hospital.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said the impact threw the 65-year-old man and 55-year-old woman several metres.

He said the man "shattered" his pelvis and sustained injuries to his chest, arm and back. The woman suffered mutiple fractures to her pelvis, a dislocated fractured shoulder and facial injuries.
