Motor sport is something that runs through the veins of the Silvester family and Grant Silvester plans to keep that alive.

Silvester is racing his father's 1938 Chev Coupe in the Skope Classic at Ruapuna this weekend.

Silvester's father, Ron Silvester, raced the Chev for over 20 years during the sixties and seventies.

After Ron's death in 1995, Silvester decided to continue racing the car and brings it out once a year for the Skope Classic.

His father got Silvester into car racing and he said he loved being able to race his father's car.

"It is a big passion. I'm humbled to be racing dad's car," he said.

The 41-year-old said the car was very basic and there was a big difference from racing it and the Trans-Am he also races.

"Jumping out of the Trans-Am with all its technology into this is a bit of a time warp," he said.

The Chev has proven to be a crowd-pleaser at past meets, drawing hundreds of people to check out the car.

"The older generation remember my father racing the car," he said.
