South Africa have recalled left-hander JP Duminy at the expense of Ashwell Prince in the only change to their test squad for next month's cricket tour of New Zealand.

The tour starts with a Twenty20 game against Canterbury in Christchurch on February 15, followed by three Twenty20 internationals, three-day one games and three tests.

Duminy, 27, played the most recent of his 12 tests last February but was preferred instead of Prince, who made scores of 11, 7 and 39 in his last three test innings against Sri Lanka in December. That is the only change to the 15-man test squad who beat Sri Lanka 2-1.

Justin Ontong's outstanding form for the Cape Cobras in the domestic one-day cup in South Africa earned him a recall for the one-day and Twenty20 series.

Ontong's last international selection was for the world Twenty20 tournament in England in 2009, although the 32-year-old did not get any game time.

He averaged 72 in this season's one-day cup and has an average of 76 in South Africa's domestic first-class competition.

Marchant de Lange, of the Nashua Titans, a test-match find against Sri Lanka, is again included in the test squad and gets his chance at Twenty20 level for the first time.

Two stalwarts, Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn, will be rested for the T20 series but will play in the other two formats.

"Ontong fully deserves this latest call-up," Cricket South Africa selection convener Andrew Hudson said. "He is the complete limited overs package, being a fine batsman who will strengthen our fielding disciplines and also give us another bowling option.

Meanwhile the Black Caps made a strong start to their one-off test against Zimbabwe in sun-drenched Napier yesterday, finishing the day at 331 for five.

Skipper Ross Taylor led from the front, reaching his century just before the close of play and finishing 112 not out.

And Brendon McCullum scored 83, going out lbw to a delivery from Kyle Jarvis, which at that stage left the Black Caps at 195-3.

Martin Guptill, who struck a well-made 51, was earlier nicked out by debutant Shingi Masakadza, while Kane Williamson found himself back in the pavilion shortly after a mix-up with McCullum led to the youngster being run out for four.

Guptill and McCullum put on 124 for the first wicket, which was the second century stand by the pair in tests, after they compiled 120 against Pakistan in Wellington in January last year.
