One of Christchurch's most luxurious hotels is set for a stylish transformation in the New Year.

The George will have it furnishings and interior d?cor revamped in the lobby and reception areas. Structural work will be carried out at the banqueting facilities on the second and third floors to enhance the extraordinary views of Hagley Park and the Avon river.

Later into the year, work will start on first-floor accommodation rooms.

A feature of the new lobby area will be a Ralph Hotere display wall, created to showcase the hotel's superb collection of work by this leading New Zealand contemporary artist.

This year Travel + Leisure magazine's international readers voted the hotel one of the world's best, in the annual World's Best Awards (Service 2004) survey.
