Female yachties scored one of their most sweeping successes in a local regatta when they filled four of the top five placings at the Canterbury Optimist championships this week.

Gabrielle Cross won the Chas Luney Cup by two points from Kate Waghorn, with Emma Reeves another four points behind in third.

Chris Pattinson was the top boy, fourth, a place ahead of Brittany Wornall.

The first-year sailor division was won by William Talbot from Barnaby Carey and Dylan Cox.

Forty crews competed at the contest.
