Bruce Greig puts the finishing touches to the North Canterbury mural
A mural featuring swooping fighter planes, warships and gun emplacements representing air force, navy and army divisions of the armed forces now graces the Rangiora RSA building.
Bruce Greig started painting the mural last Monday. He designed it a year ago using pictures from the RSA library and the internet, and estimated it would take eight days to complete. He said one third of the work went into the design of the mural.
With a background in the signwritering industry, he turned to painting murals after the sign writing industry went "vinyl". To get the scale and the outline of a mural onto the wall Greig projected the image onto the wall at night and sketched in the picture. Other murals Greig has worked on include Continental Caterers, Kaiapoi Information Centre, Cookie Time, and a Holden racing car at Auto Tech. His work is in demand with projects throughout New Zealand and Australia. For this mural he worked in conjunction with Gerald Horton Sign Writing.
