Reward offered in dog killing case

A $1000 reward has been offered for information on the killing of a six-year-old greyhound dog in Wainoni.

Animal cruelty advocacy group Paw Justice issued the reward last week after learning of the incident.

The dog, Shorty, escaped from owner Phillip Price's property when a gate was left open just before 10.30am on March 28.

The dog was missing only a few minutes before it was found 500m away in Aldershot St, near Wainoni Park. The dog had died from a severe blow to its head. There was no evidence of it being hit by a car.

Police appealed for information last week, but no one has come forward.

Paw Justice founder Craig Dunn said the group was happy to pay a bounty if it meant someone was prosecuted for animal cruelty.

Mr Price, 30, said it was "really kind and considerate" of Paw Justice to offer the reward.

Anyone with information can phone Paw Justice on (09) 535 5616 or Constable Brian Scanlan on 373 9100.
