Western Springs' tribulations have provided a bonus for Ruapuna Speedway.

Springs sprintcar stars Allan Wakeling and Hans Boere, starved of racing at home, will compete in a special Auckland V Canterbury challenge at Ruapuna tonight.

Wakeling, eight-times national champion and the track's lap record holder, is a familiar visitor, but Boere's only two previous appearances here have been in midgets.

South Island sprintcar champ Steve Duff leads the local challenge, with former modified class pacesetter Glen Leech and former South Island titleholder Kevin Clive backing him up.
