Young Japanese golfer Eri Miyake doesn't waste a moment getting on the greens in Christchurch.
The 19-year-old from Hiroshima is in her second year of a scholarship at the International Golf Qualifications course at Coringa.
She started playing four years ago under the guidance of her father, a keen player.
But golf in Japan is hugely expensive, so Miyake doesn't waste any opportunities in New Zealand to advance her goal of becoming a pro.
She won the South Island under-23 championship at Kaiapoi in March by 10 shots with a 72 score, and followed that up with a popular home course win at Coringa in the inaugural Northlands open for the Tomlinson Trophy.
Miyake on scratch topped a field of 90 with a 74 gross. "We were not surprised at all by Eri's win," said IGQ's Graham Norquay.
"She's totally committed to her golf.
"Every week, between tournaments, practice, and fitness training, she spends more than 60 hours at golf."
Miyake was a wonderful example to the large number of other juniors at Coringa, he said.
She generally played straight with the driver and had a very good short game, he said.
Her best tournament score on the par 74.1 course is 72. Miyake, who is playing No.1 for Coringa in interclub, will make a trip back to Japan this winter for a pro test.
