Sisters Bridget and Charlotte Kight are on parallel paths to sports success.
Bridget Kight, 22, is already established at the top in hockey and has nine caps for the Black Sticks since making her debut in 2005.
However, her sister Charlotte, 18, opted for netball, and selection in the New Zealand under-21 squad last year and for the Flames this year indicate she has a big future in her sport, too.
From Hawkes Bay, both are students at the University of Canterbury. Bridget is finishing a law and science double this year and Charlotte starting law and commerce.
The joint lure of netball and varsity brought Charlotte to Christchurch, encouraged by the successful transition Jodi Tod, who'd been a team mate at the Flyers, made to the Flames last year.
Charlotte has been spoiled for choice in sport. Both her older sisters played hockey, "but I never played. I broke the mould!" she said.
She is also a talented volleyballer, captaining the New Zealand under-19 team last year. However, she sees her future in netball.
"The Flames is a great environment," she said. "They are all willing to share their massive amounts of knowledge. And coaching, there's a mix of styles with Marg Foster and Helen Mahon-Stroud. "
Although she is concentrating on goalkeep at present, she can play goal defence or wing defence, too.
Bridget's big goal this year is the Champions Challenge tournament at Baku, Azerbaijan, in June, where New Zealand will be trying to qualify again for the world top six Champions Trophy.
A fullback for New Zealand and Canterbury, she plays her club hockey for Hornby at centre half.
When she finishes her degrees in July she will move to Auckland to work, but will commute to play for Canterbury in the national league again.
