The postcard sent to Belinda Welch's stepfather in Christchurch

The postcard sent to Belinda Welch's stepfather in Christchurch

The words in the postcard (left) are what missing Christchurch tsunami victim Belinda Welch's family will treasure for the rest of their lives.

The postcard arrived at stepfather John Croft's Avondale letterbox last week, written by Belinda and her husband Andrew on beautiful Bang Niang Beach in Khao Lak, Thailand, three days before it is assumed the couple perished in the devastating Boxing Day tsunami.

Published by the Star for the first time today, Croft says many people have looked at the postcard so they can get an idea of the beautiful beach Belinda, 26, and Andrew, 41, had been staying at before disaster struck.

The postcard sits on his dining table with other letters and postcards Croft and Belinda's sister Emma had received from the couple while they were travelling overseas.

The couple, devout Christians, were relaxing in Thailand as they made plans to become involved in charity work in Asia when the disaster struck. So far the death toll for the worst natural disaster in the world has topped more than 175,000.
