The top property in Canterbury has been revealed.

Wayne Murray Builders Limited's build of a new home in Tai Tapu has won the Supreme Award in the Canterbury Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers 2011 House of the Year and RMB Commercial Project Awards.

The winning home took out the PlaceMakers Supreme Award for the House of the Year, as well as the New Homes $600,000 - $1 million category.

The four bedroom, two bathroom masterpiece impressed the competition's judges with its high quality workmanship.

"The builder's workmanship is superb and his attention to detail inside and out has been well articulated. He and his team have achieved exactly what they set out to."

The judges were also pleased with the home's layout.

"The house works well for the owners, with one end dedicated to guests and family and the other end for the owners' quarters, with the living area in between," they said.

"The north facing home, has a lovely ambience about it. It has a fantastic setting, and the study overlooking the garden would be a delight to work in."

The builders' entries were recognised and celebrated by members of the Canterbury Master Builders Association and the local building industry on Friday night at the Chateau on the Park, Riccarton, Christchurch.

The 12 Gold Awards will now be assessed alongside Gold Award winners from the 13 other regions to find the National Gold Reserve finalists with winners announced in early September.
