Tsunami donations can be made through city council

Christchurch people wanting to help the tsunami victims can make donations to the Red Cross through the Christchurch City Council civic offices or service centres.

Council spokesman Bob Lineham said that, like all New Zealanders, Christchurch people are shocked at news in Asia of the huge number of lives lost and people displaced from their homes along the coasts of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand after the earthquake and tsunami.

"People will want to help. The city council wants to provide a practical means by which many can express their sympathy and concern. Donations will be handed to the Red Cross to help in its efforts to deliver aid to those worst hit," said Lineham.

Donations are accepted at the council civic offices, Tuam St or at any of seven council service centres at Beckenham, Riccarton, Sockburn, Linwood, Fendalton, Papanui or Shirley.
