Cantabrians can make a difference this year by becoming a volunteer for the Refugee and Migrant Service.
The RMS, New Zealand's resettlement agency, is seeking enthusiastic, compassionate and responsible local residents to assist resettling 10 Afghani families who will be arriving in Christchurch in March.
This is a unique opportunity for locals to make a positive contribution to the worldwide humanitarian crisis of global displacement and dislocation by building friendships and creating a supportive host community.
Successful resettlement of refugee families in NZ is highly dependant on the voluntary effort of the host community.
Alternatively, residents can donate furniture to help furnish the homes of these families.
RMS will provide training courses throughout the year for interested residents (NZQA accredited) comprising of eight workshops, commencing in January 2005.
If interested please phone Marita from RMS, phone 366-0497 or 366-0490.
