Your views: National victory?

The latest political poll predicts National storming to victory. Sitting on 52.5 per cent, National could govern alone. Labour trailed behind on 25.9 per cent with the Greens coming in third with 12.6 per cent. The Star asked people is they would like to see National govern alone and what it would mean for the country.

Lyndon Walker, 33, a father, of Prebbleton, believed National had a real shot of governing alone. He trusted a National government in control more than a Labour government.

Ray Bell, retired, of Lincoln, said the best outcome would be if National could govern without having to enter into a coalition. He said the winning party should be able to have their say without having to compromise with other parties.

Dave Lennon, a butchery manager, of Hoon Hay, said it would be a good thing if National could govern alone as it would give them complete control to put their own policies in place.

Lisa Woodward, 43, an early childcare worker, of Prebbleton, said it would not be good for the country if National were the only party in power.    "It won't be good for families." She hoped Labour would win enough votes to form the next Government.

Jo Dodds, 43, an accountant, of Templeton, said a National only government would be "the worst thing that could happen". Without a party moderating National, she said the country would be unrecognisable in three years' time.

Stephanie Broomhall, 30, a teacher of Prebbleton, was adamant she did not want National to govern alone.   "They don't promote mothers raising their own children, and they're selling our land."

Maydora Bright, 20, a student of Lincoln, said a National only government would be a disaster. She wanted anyone but National to govern the country.   "They're stripping the country of assets. They're flushing our future down the toilet." She would vote for the party with the best policies to get the country out of its "economic slump".

Jason Rea, 42, a plumber of Springston, would be happy if National governed alone. He was happy with how they had performed during the last three years.
